Fury looking to shut Wilder up for good

In two fights with Wilder, Fury has proven he’s the better man far and away each time. He made that point quite clear when he mangled Wilder, stopping the previously undefeated champion in seven rounds back in February 2020.

Inactivity and a perceived lack of motivation may be Fury’s biggest challenges here. Aside from the theoretical disadvantages, Fury is coming into this fight knowing full well that Wilder’s inability to disrupt his movement and offset his size might allow him to repeat his KO win.

Wilder has nothing to lose

Following his first career defeat, Wilder reshaped his team among unsubstantiated claims that his corner favored Fury. Physically speaking, Wilder is as dangerous as he ever was, but his mental state ahead of the defining moment of his career is another story.

Throughout Wilder’s career, he’s faced immobile opponents intimidated by his power, so he hasn’t had to make adjustments or find different ways to win. At this stage of his career and with a new corner to boot, Wilder has to hope he has a game plan to deal with Fury’s awkwardness and size.

Fury will once again dismantle Wilder

Of the 19 rounds these two have had together, Wilder has realistically won three, at best. Fury just has his number, and will be coming in with a tremendous advantage knowing he can take Wilder’s shots, but Wilder can’t take his.

We can expect Wilder to try and push the initiative early, hoping to catch Fury off guard. For the first few rounds, Wilder will be extremely dangerous and will actively try to get Fury out of there. This will fail, especially as Fury will diffuse Wilder’s uncoordinated attacks with superior footwork and head movement like before.

While Wilder may be more formidable this time around, all Fury needs to do is show up in shape and ready to fight. Eventually, Fury will chop Wilder down in the later rounds after surviving some hell early on. The call here is Fury to retain his title by knockout.
