NCAAB Notebook: Wisconsin overcomes 17-point deficit to topple Indiana

Some major conferences have already begun league play, and even though March Madness is still three months away, some of these early-season games could have major ramifications. Let’s take a look in our inaugural NCAAB Notebook!

West Virginia Upsets #15 UConn

In a battle reminiscent of a mid-2000’s Big East clash, the unranked Mountaineers defended their home court Wednesday night against the Huskies.

Neither team shot better than 40% from the floor, but the West Virginia defense held UConn scoreless for nearly four minutes near the end of the contest. After a desperate three-point attempt was off the mark at the buzzer, West Virginia celebrated a 56-53 win that moved Bob Huggins and company to 8-1 on the season.

#22 Wisconsin Rallies To Top Indiana

It was a tale of two halves Wednesday night in Madison. Indiana raced out to a 42-25 halftime lead, but the Badgers spent the last 20 minutes pecking away. The Hoosiers were held scoreless for the game’s final 3:08, and Wisconsin took its first lead of the second half with 1:18 remaining.

Top-25 Clashes Headline Saturday Slate

Several games between pairs of nationally-ranked teams will draw widespread interest this weekend. In the early window, Wisconsin heads to #21 Ohio State for a Big Ten clash. The Buckeyes are on a three-game win streak that started with a 71-66 upset of #1 Duke. Meanwhile, the late games are topped by a battle between #14 Houston and homestanding #9 Alabama.

COVID-19 Issues Ravage Washington

The Washington Huskies had to move one game and forfeit another after several cases of COVID-19 popped up within the program. The Huskies forfeited Sunday’s game against UCLA, and last week’s game against Arizona was moved to Jan. 25.
