Notre Dame Fighting Irish College Football Info

Notre Dame is one of the most storied programs in the entire country. Over the course of their lengthy history, they have amassed 11 National Championships. They are an Independent conference team and one of the winningest teams in college football, having also produced the most NFL draft picks ever. In bowl games, Notre Dame is 18-18 SU having most recently won the 2018 Citrus Bowl with a 21-17 victory over LSU. Despite being independent, they have heated rivalries with Michigan, Army, Miami (FL), USC and Michigan State.

Eleven players have won the Heisman including Angelo Bertelli (1943), Johnny Lujack (1947), Leon Hart (1949), Johnny Lattner (1953), Paul Hormung (1956), John Huarte (1964) and Tim Brown (1987). An additional 45 players have been inducted in to the College Football Hall of Fame including Joe Theismann, Ken MacAfee, Bert Metzger and Jack Cannon. Several other notable players have gone on to represent Notre Dame in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the most prominent being Joe Montana. Beyond that, Notre Dame is the setting of the beloved sports movie Rudy, which tells the real life story of an undersized walk-on who becomes a major part of the team through strength of will.

The Fighting Irish are led by Head Coach Brian Kelly, who enters his ninth season with the team. Having gone 10-3 SU and 8-5 ATS last season, the Fighting Irish open their season against Michigan in what is expected to be a wild home opener that could very well decide their 2018 college football fate.
