MLB picks: Cubs vs. Rockies, Astros vs. Dodgers

There’s a full MLB slate awaiting fans and bettors this Tuesday night. We’ve scoured the statistics to come up with our two best bets!

Leading off will be our look at the series opener between the Chicago Cubs and the Colorado Rockies. Then we’ll preview the rematch of the controversial 2017 World Series between the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Chicago Cubs (51-56) at Colorado Rockies (46-60), 8:40 p.m. ET

The Cubs and Rockies may have both lost at the trade deadline, but the latter are clearly more prepared to win on Tuesday night.

Zach Davies goes for Chicago, fresh off an elevated 1.776 WHIP for the month of July. That style does not play well at the hitter-friendly confines of Coors Field. Davies is unlikely to be bailed out by the Cubs’ depleted bullpen, which is 25th in the majors by ERA over the last two weeks (5.23).

Bettors should expect second baseman Brendan Rodgers – who has four homers in his last seven games – to contribute to Colorado’s cause.

Kyle Freeland responds for the Rockies, and he’s been incredibly unlucky to lose his last four starts considering his ERA in that span is 3.00. He should mow down what’s left of the Chicago lineup en route to an easy victory.

Houston Astros (64-42) at Los Angeles Dodgers (64-43), 10:10 p.m. ET

Walker Buehler should outduel Lance McCullers Jr. when the Dodgers host the Astros on Tuesday night.

Buehler capped off July by blanking the San Francisco Giants through seven frames, ensuring his second straight month with a sub-2.00 ERA. His WHIP on the year is a scant 0.90, so it’s unlikely that Houston will generate much traffic on the bases in this one.

McCullers has not been able to match Buehler in recent starts – far from it in fact. He owns a 6.55 ERA over his last two starts (11 innings) against the Cleveland Indians and the Seattle Mariners, respectively. Neither of those teams can boast Mookie Betts, who’s 4-for-9 (.444) lifetime off McCullers and just homered in his first game back off the IL.

The Dodgers are a bit heavy on the moneyline, but bettors willing to take them on the runline should get paid off handsomely.
