Gane’s hot streak cannot be denied

There’s no denying that Gane has been on a prodigious run, and despite the dubious politics surrounding this interim title fight, there’s no doubt he was meant for a title opportunity in the near future. His most recent performance was a clinical defeat of Alexander Volkov in June, an impressive showing as he dominated one of the division's toughest fighters.

Gane has so many shades to his game that it’s no surprise he’s a considerable favorite. When compared to his previous opponents, Lewis doesn’t really have anything he hasn’t seen before. Lewis’ notoriety for starting slow also works in his favor.

Lewis is always dangerous

Lewis once again turned certain defeat to sudden victory when he uncorked Curtis Blaydes in their February clash courtesy of his signature power. There is no moment in any fight where Lewis isn’t an absolute threat, and even a slight defensive lapse may result in a crushing knockout.

He is undoubtably the hardest puncher in the division, but he also comes into this fight with a major advantage in experience. While Lewis often faces scorecard deficits when he manages to score his highlight-reel knockouts, it is that veteran experience that lets him know when to let his hands go.

Gane will avoid calamity and win by decision

For all that’s been said of Lewis’ power, he lands just 2.59 significant strikes per minute and fights at a slow pace. Gane is busier, has better footwork and superior conditioning. Though Gane can diffuse Lewis’ bombs, he also has the skill to avoid them altogether.

As Lewis slowly starts his engine, Gane will build an insurmountable lead behind his activity. Once Lewis starts to throw with intent, Gane is either going to trust his defense and strike back, or utilize his cardio and backpedal away. If Gane chooses the latter, then there is no way Lewis will cut him off and put him down.

Expect Gane to pick Lewis apart early, outworking him and darting out of Lewis’ range. He will then preserve his lead on his way to a dominant decision victory.
