Celtics vs. Pistons: The best player prop bets for Feb. 4

February 4th, 2022

2022 hasn’t been kind to the Detroit Pistons. Dwane Casey & Co. have lost 11 games since the calendar flipped, including six of their last seven. Their most recent defeat was an ugly 128-117 outing against Minnesota, in which they allowed seven different players to score in double figures. Those kinds of stat-padding nights by the opposition have been all too common for a team that now finds itself with the second worst record in the NBA.

The Pistons will have a chance to get back on track tonight against the Celtics, but it won’t be an easy task. Boston has won three straight games and is back in the hunt for a playoff spot following an uneven start to the season that was marred by injuries, COVID-related absences, and chemistry issues. The Celtics will be eager to keep their foot on the gas tonight when they cruise into the Motor City.

Tip off for Celtics vs. Pistons is set for 7:00 p.m. ET, and we have the three best player prop bets below.

Jaylen Brown Over/Under 24.5 points

Jaylen Brown has been so hot lately he deserves his own Scoville rating. The All-Star guard has scored 26 points or more in four of his last five games and is just one month removed from dropping a career-high 50 points on the Magic.

Brown went 19-29 from the floor and 5-10 from beyond the arc in that matchup against Orlando, and iced the game by scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter. It was an exceptional performance, but it was also far from a fluke, as the athletic Georgia native has quietly emerged as one of the NBA's most lethal scorers.

Brown should have little trouble getting to his favorite spots again tonight against a woebegone Pistons squad that ranks 25th in defensive rating and is among the most generous teams in the league in opponent field goal percentage (47.3%) and opponent 3-point percentage (36.8%). It's worth noting that Detroit is also in the bottom third in the league in points surrendered to opposing shooting guards (22.69).

Grab some popcorn and enjoy the show.

Pick: Over 24.5 points (-113)

Jayson Tatum Over/Under 2.5 3-point field goals made

Boston's recent success wouldn't be possible with Brown's partner in crime, Jayson Tatum. The Olympic gold medallist is averaging 25.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game while connecting on 2.8 of his career-high 8.4 3-point attempts.

Tatum's willingness to fire from deep has been especially apparent lately. He went 9-14 against the Washington Wizards on Jan. 23 and 7-14 against the Sacramento Kings two nights later on Jan. 25. Head coach Ime Udoka has given his star forward the greenest of green lights to fire at will, and Tatum won't be shy about pulling the trigger tonight.

Pick: Over 2.5 3-point field goals made (-113)

Marcus Smart Over/Under 5.5 assists

Brown and Tatum power Boston's offense, but it's Marcus Smart who is responsible for setting the dynamic duo up with his pinpoint passes off of drive and kick actions. The burly point guard is averaging 5.5 assists per game this season as the Celtics' lead distributor, and has recorded six assists or more in five of his last six games. That includes a 12-dime night against the New Orleans Pelicans on Jan. 29 in which he picked them apart like a Thanksgiving turkey.

Given Brown and Tatum's current groove - and Detroit's inability to stop anyone - this is an especially attractive prop. Grab the plus odds while you can.

Pick: Over 5.5 assists (+100)
