Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott raced to a quick start in his NFL career, but recently, his future has become a contentious topic.

During the 2019 and 2020 seasons, Prescott and the Cowboys front office struggled to come to an agreement on a long-term contract extension, despite Prescott’s overall successful stint as Dallas' starting quarterback.

The sixth-year, dual-threat QB has led the Cowboys to the postseason twice and ranked in the top five in passing yards and touchdown passes in 2019 — a year before he went down with a season-ending ankle injury.

Nonetheless, Prescott's abilities as a quarterback and how much he deserves to be paid at his position continuously come into question.

To further explore the great Dak debate, let’s look back at what No. 4 has accomplished.

Below, we break down Prescott’s regular-season and postseason records against every NFL team, and highlight some of his key performances.

Prescott vs. Atlanta Falcons

Of his four matchups against Atlanta, Prescott's most notable came in a Week 2 contest during the 2020 season.

Down 20 points in the first quarter, Dallas mounted an improbable comeback, in large part because of Prescott, who threw for 450 yards and a touchdown. He also ran the ball in for three more scores to lead the Cowboys to a 40-39 win.

In his next two games that season, Prescott passed for 472 yards and 502 yards, which made him the first player in NFL history to throw for at least 450 yards in three consecutive contests.

Prescott vs. Detroit Lions

One non-divisional opponent Prescott has consistently beaten up on is Detroit, which is 0-3 against the QB.

His best showing against the Lions came in 2019, when he finished with 444 passing yards, 28 rushing yards, and four total touchdowns in a 35–27 road win.

That performance earned him NFC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time that season.

Prescott vs. New York Giants

Dak got his first start against NFC East rival New York in Week 1 of the 2016 season. In that game, Prescott completed just 55% of his passes for 227 passing yards and no touchdowns, as the Cowboys lost, 20–19.

Following that defeat, Prescott took the Cowboys on an 11-game win streak, which ended on Dec. 11, 2016 — in a 10-7 loss to the Giants.

New York brought Prescott more bad luck in Week 5 of 2020, when he suffered a compound fracture and dislocation to his right ankle. He was placed on season-ending injured reserve Oct. 19.

Prescott is 9-2 against the Giants and recorded his first perfect passer rating in a 35-17 win over New York in 2019. The last Dallas quarterback to achieve that feat was Craig Morton in 1969.

Prescott vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Since Prescott became the starter in Dallas in 2016, the Cowboys and the Eagles have traded off division titles every year, until 2020.

He led the Cowboys to first place in the division in 2016 and 2018, while Philly landed first in 2017 and 2019.

During the 2020 season, which saw Prescott compete in just five games, the Washington Football Team won the division with a 7-9 record.

Prescott and the Cowboys grounded the Eagles on Monday Night Football on Sept. 27, 2021, winning 41-21. The Mississippi State alum threw for 238 yards and three touchdowns in the lopsided victory.

Prescott vs. Seattle Seahawks

In three tries, Prescott hasn't been able to beat Seattle during the regular season. However, when it mattered most, he got the best of Russell Wilson and company.

In 2018, as the No. 4 seed in the NFC playoffs, Prescott met Seattle in the Wild Card Round, where he passed for 226 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. He also added 29 yards on the ground and ran the ball in for a critical, late-game touchdown to lift Dallas over Seattle in a 24-22 win.

Prescott vs. Washington Football Team

Prescott has only lost once to NFC East foe Washington — a 20-17 defeat at Washington in Week 7 of 2018.

In Week 17 of 2019, Prescott completed nearly 70% of his passes for 303 yards, four touchdowns, and rushed for another 35 yards in a 47-16 drubbing of Washington.

Prescott vs. Green Bay Packers

During Prescott's breakout rookie campaign, he confronted Green Bay in Week 6 of the 2016 season. While he got a win in a three-touchdown outing, he also threw his first interception.

His 176 pass attempts prior to that pick broke the record for most consecutive pass attempts without an interception to start a career. Tom Brady previously held the record at 162 attempts, in 2000–2001.

Prescott met Green Bay again that year, in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, after Dallas went 13-3 in the regular season. This time, Green Bay won, 34-31, despite a strong showing from Prescott (302 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception).

Following that loss, Prescott earned his first of two Pro Bowl nominations and was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. He beat out teammate Ezekiel Elliott by seven votes.

Prescott vs. Los Angeles Rams

In 2018, Dallas finished first in the NFC East, with a 10-6 record, and earned the No. 4 seed in the playoffs.

After the Cowboys defeated Seattle in the Wild Card Round, they faced another NFC West opponent, the Rams.

Prescott threw for 266 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another score, but L.A. won, 30-22.

At the end of that season, Prescott earned his second Pro Bowl selection as an alternate and replaced Drew Brees on the Pro Bowl roster.
