It's time to take the Cowboys' Super Bowl odds seriously

Another week of NFL action has come and gone, and what a difference one weekend makes. Last weekend’s trendy team, the Tennessee Titans, saw its Super Bowl hopes take a significant hit when Derrick Henry was lost for the season.

This week, I’ll focus on a team with arguably the easiest road to a great record, but one that’s sitting at +900.

Cowboys have a stranglehold on the NFC East

The Dallas Cowboys found a way to top the Minnesota Vikings without starting quarterback Dak Prescott. In doing so, they moved to 6-1 on the season and remain in complete command of the NFC East, which features three sub-.500 teams.

The NFC has four one-loss teams. In addition to the Cowboys, the Packers, Cardinals, and Rams have all jumped out to fast starts. However, those teams all have far, far tougher schedules than Dallas, which still has at least one game against every other NFC East team left on its schedule. The Cowboys will also play Denver and Atlanta at home each of the next two weeks, so they’ll have every chance to move to 8-1 ahead of a trip to Kansas City later this month.

Prescott's return is imminent

Dak Prescott is set to return from a minor injury this week, and the rest of the offense has been humming since a Week 1 heartbreaker at Tampa Bay. Meanwhile, the Cowboys defense has seen the emergence of rookie Trevon Diggs, who has grabbed seven interceptions in as many games.

I see a lot that I like here, and it baffles me that we’re getting greater than +900 odds. Winning the division ensures at least one home game in the playoffs, and from there, any team can ride valuable momentum to a deep playoff run. I don’t think this price will last, and if you think the Cowboys are for real, I’d urge you to take action now before the number goes down due to a playoff spot clinched very early.
