The New York Jets surprised the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8 and will look to collect their third win of the season against the 3-5 Indianapolis Colts on Thursday Night Football.

Mike White plays spoiler in first NFL start

Stepping in for injured rookie Zach Wilson, Jets backup quarterback Mike White — a former fifth-round pick out of Western Kentucky — got the first start of his NFL career on Sunday.

The fourth-year quarterback hardly looked like a player who had just thrown his first NFL pass in last week's blowout loss to the New England Patriots.

In Sunday's 34-31 come-from-behind win against Cincinnati, White went 37-of-45 for 405 yards, threw three touchdown passes, and caught a two-point conversion attempt for the go-ahead score with 3:45 left to play.

In addition to setting an NFL record for the most completions in a player's first start, White also became the Jets' first 400-yard passer since Vinny Testaverde in 2000, and joined Cam Newton as the only players since 1950 to pass for more than 400 yards in their first start. 

On defense, Shaq Lawson pulled down New York's first interception of the season, as he picked off Joe Burrow's pass with under five minutes remaining to set up a Tyler Kroft touchdown. 

Sunday's win marked New York's second of the season, while the offense ended a streak of six straight games without a score in the first quarter.

Running back Michael Carter Jr. rushed for an eight-yard touchdown on his team's opening drive and finished the day with 77 rushing yards, along with 95 receiving yards.

Wentz's turnovers prove costly in division loss

Following back-to-back victories over Houston and San Francisco, the Colts hosted AFC South rival Tennessee in their second meeting of the season.

In Week 3, Indy lost 25-16 to its rival, as quarterback Carson Wentz played on two sprained ankles.

Wentz entered the Week 8 rematch in much better health and helped his team build a quick 14-0 lead behind two Michael Pittman Jr. touchdown catches.

In the fourth quarter, the veteran signal caller unraveled.

With the game tied 24-24 and under two minutes remaining, Wentz threw an interception from his own two-yard line that the Titans ran into the end zone for an easy score.

Wentz responded by leading his team to a touchdown on the following possession, which forced overtime, with the game tied 31-31.

He then coughed up his third interception of the season and set up a game-winning field goal for Tennessee on its second drive in extra minutes.

Wentz ended the contest with 231 yards on 27-of-51 passing, plus three touchdowns.

Pittman led Indianapolis with 86 yards on 10 catches, while Jonathan Taylor carried the ball 16 times for 70 yards and a touchdown.

Receiver T.Y. Hilton, who has been plagued by injuries all season, left in the fourth quarter with a concussion.

Indy's defense intercepted Ryan Tannehill twice and held running back Derrick Henry to just 68 yards, but against the pass, the unit struggled.

A.J. Brown caught 10 passes for 155 yards, including a 57-yard touchdown late in the first half.

Colts' defense will halt Jets' momentum

The Colts just stuffed Henry, the league's premier running back, and will now get a Jets rushing attack that ranks dead last in yards per game (75.6). 

White will need another standout performance in his second career start — in primetime, no less — to keep the score close.

He'll confront a defense that is tied for first in takeaways (18) and can't afford to cough up the ball early, like he did against Cincinnati.

While Sunday's upset win will provide the Jets with a heap of momentum entering this game, the Colts are superior in almost every major statistical category and will bounce back for a decisive win at home.
