*This article has since been updated to reflect Jimmy Garoppolo's record against each NFL team as of Jan. 31, 2022.

Ever since the San Francisco 49ers traded up for the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the future of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has come into question.

The former second-round pick out of Eastern Illinois arrived in San Francisco in 2017, by way of a trade with the New England Patriots.

Since then, Jimmy G has endured a turbulent ride in the Bay Area. After a hot start in San Francisco, he missed most of the 2018 season with an ACL tear, only to return in 2019 and take the Niners to a Super Bowl.

In 2020, injuries again plagued the QB, who signed a $137.5 million contract with San Francisco ahead of the 2018 season.

As we look ahead to the latest chapter in his capricious career, let's break down Garoppolo's regular-season and postseason records against every NFL team.

Garoppolo vs. the Arizona Cardinals

In 2016, while Tom Brady was suspended four games because of Deflategate, Garoppolo got his first start for New England, in a Week 1 game against Arizona.

In the 23–21 victory, Garoppolo completed 24 of his 33 passes for 264 yards and a touchdown on Sunday Night Football.

Garoppolo vs. the Chicago Bears

Garoppolo got his first start with the 49ers in a Week 12 win against the Chicago Bears in 2017.

Following that matchup, Jimmy G won his next five games to bring his record to 7–0 in his first seven starts (including two with New England). The last quarterback to achieve that feat was Ben Roethlisberger in 2004.

In the six games Garoppolo played during the 2017 season, the 49ers scored on 62% of their offensive drives.

Garoppolo vs. the Miami Dolphins

Garoppolo was expected to start all four games during Brady's suspension, but a shoulder injury during a Week 2 win against Miami sidelined the quarterback for the next two contests.

In his only other start against the Dolphins, Garoppolo was benched at halftime of a 2020 matchup, after he completed seven of 17 passes for 77 yards and tossed two interceptions.

Garoppolo was nursing a high ankle sprain, which he suffered earlier in the season against the New York Jets. He returned as the full-time starter following the loss to Miami in Week 5 but re-aggravated his ankle in Week 8 and was placed on injured reserve for the rest of the 2020 season.

Garoppolo vs. the Seattle Seahawks

Garoppolo made his 49ers debut in a Week 12 contest with NFC West rival Seattle in 2017. He did not enter the game until the final minute and threw a 10-yard touchdown to Louis Murphy on the final play of the 24-13 loss.

He is 1-5 against Seattle — the only NFC West team with a winning record against Garoppolo.

Garoppolo vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Garoppolo made his return from his ACL injury in Week 1 of the 2019 season. Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he passed for 166 yards, one touchdown, and an interception in a 31–17 win.

With Garoppolo as the starter, the Niners went on to win their next eight games, which gave San Francisco its first 8-0 start since 1990.

Garoppolo vs. the New England Patriots

Following Garoppolo's trade to San Francisco in the middle of the 2017 season, rumors surfaced that Brady had forced the deal amid tension among him, coach Bill Belichick, and team owner Robert Kraft.

In 2020, Jimmy G met his former team for a road game in Foxborough, but instead of facing Brady — who had departed for Tampa Bay — he squared up with new Patriots quarterback Cam Newton.

In a 33-6 San Francisco win, Garoppolo completed 20 of his 25 passes for 277 yards but threw two interceptions.

Garoppolo vs. the New Orleans Saints

In an anticipated Week 14 matchup with the New Orleans Saints in 2019, Garoppolo completed 26 of his 35 passes for 349 yards, tallied five total touchdowns, and threw one interception in a 48-46 win.

His performance earned him NFC Offensive Player of the Week and brought San Francisco's record to 11-2 for the season, which put the team in prime position for the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

The 49ers ended the season with a 13-3 record, while Garoppolo racked up 3,978 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. He was runner-up to Ryan Tannehill for that year's NFL Comeback Player of the Year award.

Garoppolo vs. the Kansas City Chiefs

With New England in 2014, Garoppolo made his regular-season NFL debut in the fourth quarter of a Week 4 battle with the Kansas City Chiefs.

On his first drive, Garoppolo recorded his first passing touchdown on a 13-yard strike to tight end Rob Gronkowski. He completed all but one of his seven passes for 70 yards and a score in the 41-14 road loss.

In 2018, with San Francisco, Garoppolo suffered his season-ending ACL injury against the Chiefs in Week 3. The Niners finished the season with a 4-12 record.

The following season, Garoppolo met Kansas City in Super Bowl LIV, where he completed 20 of his 31 passes for 219 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

After they led by 10 points with seven minutes remaining, the Niners fell to the Chiefs, 31-20.

Garoppolo vs. the Green Bay Packers

Following his win over the Minnesota Vikings in the Divisional Round of the 2019 playoffs, Garoppolo attempted just eight passes in a 37–20 NFC Championship Game victory against Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

Hobbled by a knee injury, Garoppolo's eight passes were tied for second fewest thrown in a playoff game.

In the matchup prior, against Minnesota, Garoppolo completed 11 of 19 passes for 131 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

Garoppolo again played spoiler to Green Bay in the 2022 NFL Playoffs, as his sixth-seeded Niners bested the top-seeded Packers, 13-10. Garoppolo finished with 131 yards on 11-of-19 passing and threw one interception.

The Niners' only points in the contest came on a special teams touchdown and a pair of field goals, including the game-winner, by Robbie Gould.
