Here comes Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Rookie of the Year frontrunner Clyde Edwards-Helaire figures to have a large impact on this game.

The NFL’s second-leading rusher will go against a soft Jets rush defense that is 20th in yards allowed per game on the ground (125.6). Edwards-Helaire averages 16.4 carries a game but figures to get more, especially if this game gets out of hand.

Can the Jets mitigate Mahomes’ impact?

Patrick Mahomes is not really in the MVP conversation this season, but it is not because he is struggling.

Mahomes is just seventh in passing yards, mainly because his team hasn’t needed him to do more. He still maintains an incredible 16-1 touchdown-interception ratio.

New York’s stoppers have been efficient in the red zone this year. The Jets have allowed just 51.7% of opponents' trips to turn into touchdowns, the fifth-best mark in the NFL. This was on full display Sunday, when the Jets held Buffalo to six field goals in an 18-10 loss.

Another long day for Darnold?

The Chiefs run defense is weak (149.9 rushing yards allowed per game, 30th in the NFL), but 37-year-old Jets tailback Frank Gore doesn’t seem capable of exploiting this unit. This will put more pressure on quarterback Sam Darnold.

The Jets aerial attack has been dismal in 2020. It has mustered just 159.9 yards per game, which ranks last in the league. Unfortunately for New York, pass defense has been a strength for Kansas City. The Chiefs fourth, at 211.7 passing yards allowed per game.

Wide receiver injuries could hamper the offenses

Chiefs wideout Sammy Watkins is dealing with a hamstring injury and could miss a second straight game on Sunday.

Jets receiver Jamison Crowder is suffering from a groin injury and is also in danger of missing a second straight game.

Which team will cover in this lopsided matchup?

Trends say take the Under

The Under is 5-1 in the Jets’ last six games against teams with winning records. New York has gone below the total in eight of its last 11 games against AFC opponents.

The Under is 28-9-1 in the Chiefs’ last 38 home games against teams with losing road records.

Score prediction: Chiefs 31, Jets 13
