NFL Week 3 Betting Guide
Even hardcore football fans may need to consult their programs during Week 3 as a slew of franchise stars are expected to be on the sidelines. Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees and Nick Foles are among the A-listers who will be on the outside looking in as they recover from serious injuries sustained during the first two weeks of the season. Ditto for Sam Darnold, who has succumbed to the dreaded kissing disease.Fortunately there are plenty of new stars ready to take their place (we're looking at you, Gardner Minshew!), and some intriguing teams worth watching (hello Baltimore!) We've taken stock of the latest developments from around the league and have put together all the trends and analysis you'll need to make the most of Week 3.

Quicklinks
Baltimore Ravens vs. Kansas City Chiefs (-6.5)
Lamar Jackson continued to impress in Week 2 for the Baltimore Ravens, as he accumulated 272 yards and two scores through the air, plus another 120 yards on the ground.
In the first week of play, Jackson earned a perfect passer rating against the Miami Dolphins and looked completely at ease throwing from the pocket. The dual-threat QB carried the ball just three times in the contest but turned up the run in Sunday’s game against the Cardinals. He ended the day on 24-of-37 passing and carried the ball 16 times for an average of 7.5 yards per rush. The league let 31 picks go before someone picked Lamar Jackson.
He is 8-2 as a starter [including playoffs] and this season he's: 41 of 57 passing (72%) for 596 yards with 7 TDs and 0 INTs through 2 gams. Also 19 carries for 126 yards.pic.twitter.com/GmmwG1qQ9i — Dov Kleiman (@NFL_DovKleiman) September 15, 2019
The Chiefs run game experienced issues against the Raiders and tallied just 31 total yards, with 23 coming from LeSean McCoy. Expect another lack of output from Kansas City’s rushing attack against the Ravens defense, which has held opponents to an average of 20.5 rushing yards through two games.
The road team is 7-2 against the spread in the last nine meetings between the Ravens and Chiefs. With the way Jackson has been playing so far, he should cause plenty of mayhem against a weak Chiefs defense. Look for a shoot-out between two potent offenses, as the Ravens encounter their first difficult road test in the hostile atmosphere of Arrowhead Stadium.

Oakland Raiders vs. Minnesota Vikings (-8)
Minnesota relied heavily on the run in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons, with Dalvin Cook unleashing for 111 yards on 21 carries and two scores for the Vikings. On Sunday against Green Bay, he broke free for 154 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries but couldn’t tack on a win to go along with another monster showing.Time for a round of Rate That Highlight!
What scored would you give @Vikings RB @dalvincook's 75-yard TD vs Packers? Our average score: 9 pic.twitter.com/eOboMwXYG1 — GMFB (@gmfb) September 16, 2019
The Packers edged out the Vikings 21-16, while Kirk Cousins struggled against the Packers D. Cousins completed 14 of his 32 passes for 230 yards and got picked off twice. Luckily, he’ll face the league’s worst passing defense in the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.
The Raiders have allowed 341 yards through the air over their first two games, though they’ve given up the fifth-fewest yards per game (63) on the ground.
Despite the mess of a situation Oakland has endured with Antonio Brown, the team pulled together for a 24-16 win against the Broncos in Week 1. The Chiefs were too difficult a challenge in Week 2, but the Raiders may hand Minnesota a much closer contest than expected.
The underdog is 5-1 against the spread in the last six meetings between these teams. It’ll be interesting to see if the Raiders can stuff Minnesota’s rushing attack and force Cousins to step up in the passing game in order to win on Sunday.

Houston Texans vs. Los Angeles Chargers (-3)
The Texans just barely got by the Jacksonville Jaguars, 13-12, on Sunday to give Houston its first win of the season. Houston led 6-3 heading into halftime and opened the fourth quarter with the first touchdown by either team, when Deshaun Watson ran the ball in from the 2-yard line. The Jaguars nearly capped off a comeback to win the game at the end of regulation, but new starting quarterback Gardner Minshew failed to complete the two-point conversion that would’ve sealed the deal.
Meanwhile, the Chargers suffered a shocking 13-10 defeat to the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Los Angeles scored just once in the game on a 1-yard run by Austin Ekeler in the first quarter and allowed Matthew Stafford to connect with Kerryon Johnson and Kenny Golladay on 36- and 31-yard touchdown passes, respectively.

— The Checkdown (@thecheckdown) September 15, 2019
With the Chargers trailing by three and in position to kick a game-tying field goal, Philip Rivers threw a costly interception in the end zone with 1:03 remaining.
The Chargers make a welcome trip home for Week 3 to host the Texans. Houston is 0-6 against the spread in the last six meetings with the Chargers but haven’t faced Los Angeles in the regular season since 2016, when the Chargers beat the Texans 21-13 on the road.

Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Thursday, September 19, 8:15 p.m. ET | TIAA Bank FieldThe Tennessee Titans fell for the 14th time in the last 16 games against the Indianapolis Colts with a 19-17 loss on Sunday. Marcus Mariota went 19-of-28 for 154 yards and one touchdown while getting sacked four times for a loss of 35 yards. He also rushed for 32 yards on five carries, with a long of 15.
Tennessee nearly held off the Colts for a 17-13 win but gave up the game-winning touchdown with 4:38 to go in regulation. Mariota attempted to drive the ball into field-goal range and came up short, as his pass fell incomplete on 4th-and-2 at the Indianapolis 45-yard line.
The Titans get a chance to redeem themselves on the road Thursday against Gardner Minshew and the Jaguars. Jacksonville notched its second loss of the season on Sunday against the Texans, though the Jaguars nearly sent it in to overtime in the final minute of the game.

— Big Minshew Country (@BigCatCountry) September 15, 2019
Minshew completed 22 of his 33 passes for 213 yards and one touchdown, but the offensive line struggled to protect him. He’ll take on a Titans defense that is tied for second in total sacks (8) and has allowed the second-fewest passing yards per game at 182.5.

Los Angeles Rams vs. Cleveland Browns
Sunday, September 22, 8:20 p.m. ET | FirstEnergy StadiumSunday’s game against New Orleans should have been closer, but once Drew Brees exited the game with a thumb injury, LA took over for a 27-9 rout of the Saints.
#Saints QB Drew Brees has a torn ligament in his throwing thumb and he’s going to require surgery, sources say. The timeframe depends on the surgery, but he’s likely out 6 weeks. That’s the initial estimate.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) September 16, 2019
The depleted Saints failed to reach the end zone all game, as Teddy Bridgewater stepped in at backup to complete 17 of 30 passes for just 165 yards.
The Saints were called for 11 penalties on the day for a loss of 87 yards, and L.A. tacked on another eight for a loss of 65.
The Rams head to Cleveland to face a Browns team that showed a huge lack of discipline in Week 1, when they committed 18 penalties for a loss of 182 yards. Sunday’s game could feature plenty of whistles as well.
The Browns were a popular Super Bowl pick heading into the 2019 season, but they looked far from a contender following a 30-point loss to the Titans in Week 1.
The Rams are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings with Cleveland, while the favorite is also 4-1 ATS in the last five.
Chicago Bears vs. Washington Redskins
Monday, September 23, 8:15 p.m. ET | FedExFieldChicago narrowly pulled off its first win of the season against the Denver Broncos in Week 2. With time expiring, Eddy Pineiro kicked a 53-yard field goal to put the Bears over the Broncos, 16-14.

— The Checkdown (@thecheckdown) September 15, 2019
Mitchell Trubisky put on another mediocre showing, as he went 16-of-27 for 120 yards. David Montgomery scored the Bears’ only touchdown on a 1-yard run in the third quarter before Emmanuel Sanders caught a 7-yard pass to give the Broncos the lead with less than a minute left.
The Bears travel to Washington looking for a much easier win against the 0-2 Redskins. In Week 2, Washington lost 31-21 at home against the Dallas Cowboys, with little help from the Washington run game. Veteran running back Adrian Peterson managed to reach the end zone on a 1-yard run in the first quarter, which marked his 107th career touchdown, moving him to fifth on the all-time list for career rushing TDs.
The road team is 2-7 against the spread in the last nine meetings between Chicago and Washington, while the Bears are 0-5 ATS in the last five in the series.

Get to Know Gardner Minshew
The Jaguars may be 0-2, but there's reason for optimism in Jacksonville thanks to the emergence of rookie Gardner Minshew, who's seized control of the team following an injury to Nick Foles. Here are three things you should know about the mustachioed wonder:
- Minshew established a modern-day NFL record by completing his first 13 career passes in Jacksonville's 40-26 Week 1 loss to Kansas City. He finished the game 22-of-25 for 275 yards and two touchdowns.
- A native of Brandon, Mississippi, Minshew was a lightly regarded prospect who was passed over by Ole Miss and Mississippi State. He enrolled instead at Northwest Mississippi Community College, where he led the Rangers to a national championship during his freshman season.
- Minshew was nearly named Beowulf. His grandfather, Billy, was a big fan of the mythical Scandinavian monster slayer and wanted his grandson to have the same heroic qualities.

RAW video: Drew Brees talks about his thumb injury.
In his 19-year NFL career, Brees has missed just one game due to injury (2015 vs. Carolina)@wdsu pic.twitter.com/dmGQCorHt2 — Fletcher Mackel (@FletcherWDSU) September 16, 2019
Drew Brees looked like a broken man while detailing the extent of his thumb injury following New Orleans'27-9 loss to Los Angeles. The Saints QB could miss up to six weeks if he elects to undergo surgery.
Safe to say Derek Carr wasn’t happy w/officiating today:
“The 2nd interception will blow my mind forever. It was PI & they said he was blocking. So I ask the man, I said ’Sir, why would I throw him the ball if he was blocking?’ & he didn’t have an answer for me & walked away.” pic.twitter.com/K6zUOmP6lg — 95.7 The Game (@957thegame) September 16, 2019
You're not alone if you found yourself mystified by the questionable pass interference calls from Week 2. Raiders QB Derek Carr could barely contain himself when discussing the officiating fail from Oakland's 28-10 loss to Kansas City.

Three and Out
We could be witnessing the end of an era as Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri appears to be on the verge of calling it quits. Here are three fun facts about the 46-year-old legend:
- Vinatieri holds 20 different NFL records including most points scored, most field goals made and most regular season wins.
- Vinatieri is the only player in NFL history to score 1,000 points or more with two different franchises.
- The great-great grandson of George Armstrong Custer's bandmaster, Vinatieri dropped out of West Point after just two weeks. He ended up enrolling at South Dakota State University instead, where he went onto become the Jackrabbits' all-time leading scorer.
The NFL is back and so are BetAmerica's National Football League odds, props and futures!

NFL Information and History
When it comes to sports betting in the United States, nothing is bigger than NFL football and NCAAF football. Below you will find information on NFL and NCAAF betting at BetAmerica. The National Football League (NFL) was founded in 1920 and has survived many years of instability and competition from rival organizations to become the strongest American professional football league. The NFL completed a merger with the American Football League (AFL) in 1970 to create a 26-team circuit. Since then, the league has expanded four times and added six new franchises to create today’s modern NFL with 32 teams; all based in the United States.
The NFL is governed by a commissioner, and the schedule consists of a 17-game regular season with each team playing 16 games and having one bye week. The regular season runs from September through December.
The NFL owners unanimously approved a realignment plan for the league starting in 2002. Seven clubs changed divisions, and the league consists of 32 teams in two conferences, the American (AFC) and National (NFC) with four divisions in each conference. A new scheduling format ensures that every team meets every other team in the league at least once every four years. All division teams meet twice during the regular season.
Following the regular season, six teams from each conference qualify for the playoffs with each division winner plus two wild cards. The winner of each conference plays in the championship game, the Super Bowl for the league’s top prize, the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
The NFL has the highest average attendance at their games of any professional sports league in the world. Attendance averaged more than 67,000 fans per game in 2017. The NFL is the undisputed leader as the most popular spectator sport in the United States.
The league headquarters are in New York City, and the official website is http://www.NFL.com.

The NFL Spread, NFL Moneyline and NFL TOTAL
Like all major sports, American football betting is built around the straight bets - the spread, moneyline and total. The spread is a point differential between the two teams that indicates a favorite being handicapped against an underdog. This is to account for the strengths of either team. If you were to wager on Team A at -6.5 against Team B, you would need Team A to win by at least seven points to clear the wager. Inversely, Team B could win outright or lose by up to six points in order for your bet to cover. The moneyline is a bet on the outright winner, while the total is an over/under wager on the total number of points scored the game itself.
The natural home line for NFL and NCAAF betting is -3.0, while the total will begin at 44.5. From there, the odds are adjusted to account for the disparity between the two sides. Action generated from the betting public can also influence the odds in a game.
American football uses American odds, but you can also adjust the system at BetAmerica to view decimal or fractional odds if you prefer. Wagers with a minus-sign will indicate how much you have to bet in order to win $100. An example is a -135 favorite ($135 bet to win $100). Underdogs will have a plus-sign in front of their odds, indicating how much you would win if you bet $100. An example is +275 ($275 return on $100 wager).
Parlays and straight bets both apply to American football betting and gain extra traction because most of the games all happen on the same day. You can also enjoy teasers, if-bets and round robins. BetAmerica offers the full menu when it comes to football betting every weekend!
