Seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady and his super roster are a -400 favorite to triumph at home, and bettors feel confident they will get the job done, based on betting action taken at TwinSpires Sports.
The Bucs return all 22 starters from last season's Super Bowl team and will face a Dallas squad that hopes to bounce back from a 6-10 record in 2020.
The Cowboys will have franchise quarterback Dak Prescott back in the lineup for the first time since he went down with a dislocated ankle in Week 5 of last season. Prescott is fully healed from that season-ending injury but has also been working through a shoulder strain in the offseason.
Mix in a depleted offensive line, with Pro Bowl guard Zack Martin out with COVID-19, and the Dallas offense could be in for a shaky start against a pass-rushing unit that tallied the fourth most sacks (48) in the league last season.
The team's defense also underwent an overhaul in the offseason and will feature a handful of young, inexperienced players under new defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
It's little surprise that more than 80% of the betting public likes the Tampa Bay moneyline in Week 1.
Not only does the majority of the public expect the Buccaneers to win outright Thursday night. They also anticipate a commanding victory.
More than 80% of all tickets and betting handle at TwinSpires Sports has been placed on Tampa Bay to cover the 8.5-point spread.
The line opened at 6.5.
Tampa Bay is 4-0 ATS in its last four home games, while Dallas is 3-9 ATS in its last 12 games against NFC opponents.
A more even market is the points total, which is set at 51.5.
More than over half (56%) of all money has been played on the Under, while 57% of tickets backed the Over.
The Over is 4-0 in the Cowboys' last four games as an underdog, and it is 7-3 in the Buccaneers' last 10 Thursday games.
As for player props, the most popular wager made at TwinSpires Sports is on Brady to hit the Over on 2.5 touchdown passes (+135).
Nearly 80% of handle and 76% of tickets have been placed on the Over.
In 2020, Brady ranked second in the league in touchdown passes (40) and averaged 2.5 per contest.
The Cowboys surrendered 2.1 passing touchdowns per game last season, tied for second most in the league.
