Three weeks have come and gone in the 2021 National Football League season. Several fanbases are panicking, but a few are flying high, and that’s reflected in the latest Super Bowl odds.

Rams made the champs looks like chumps

One of the most impressive wins on the Sunday slate came in Los Angeles. The Rams hosted the reigning Super Bowl champs, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and triumphed 34-24. Los Angeles led for most of the game, and video of a pumped-up Sean McVey justifiably made the rounds on social media.

It’s logical to be excited if you’re a Rams fan. Matthew Stafford is playing extremely well in his first season for Los Angeles, and the defense led by all-world lineman Aaron Donald and cornerback Jalen Ramsey is turning heads, too. As a result, the Rams are now the third choice to win the Super Bowl at +800.

Can Los Angeles make a deep run? Absolutely. However, +800 seems way too short.

Rams face a hard road ahead

For one thing, the next two weeks present potential minefields. The Rams lock up with NFC West foes Arizona and Seattle, and that division (which also includes the San Francisco 49ers) may be the best in football. It’s not inconceivable that a team needs to go 12-5 to win the NFC West. Can the Rams do that? Absolutely, but it’s far from a sure thing.

After the calendar turns to November, the Rams have the following schedule: Tennessee (on a short week), at San Francisco, at Green Bay, Jacksonville, at Arizona, Seattle, at Minnesota, at Baltimore, San Francisco. Of those nine matchups, only one (the Dec. 5 tilt against Jacksonville) seems like a certain victory.

Practice patience with LA

This is not an indictment of the Rams. They just beat the most recent Super Bowl champions and have game-changers on both sides of the ball. However, I can’t endorse them at their current +800 price. I think you’ll get better value later in the season if you like them, so I’d advise a more patient approach.
