Scully's NFL notebook: Bills could be the cream of the crop

Scratch what I said about Pittsburgh making the playoffs after Week 1.

Things have gotten so bad that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger may be benched, and the NFL is never static from week to week.

Buffalo is taking no prisoners

Buffalo has made a compelling case for the best team in the NFL.

The Bills have annihilated their opposition and outscored their last three opponents by a combined 118-21 margin, including a pair of shutouts.

Wide receiver Stefon Diggs got on track last week, with seven catches for 114 yards, and the Bills will enter their Week 5 showdown at Kansas City in top form.

Arizona is the lone unbeaten

Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray enhanced his MVP credentials, and Arizona is the last undefeated team standing, after it throttled the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4.

With an abundance of weapons, the Cardinals lead the league in scoring (35 points per game). They’re fun to watch, and Arizona will continue to be tested, with San Francisco (Week 5), Cleveland (Week 6), and Green Bay (Week 8) in the immediate future.

The Jekyll and Hyde Saints

A roller coaster best describes the first four weeks for New Orleans.

After a rousing, 38-3 victory over Green Bay in Week 1, the Saints showed up flat in a 26-7 loss to Carolina.

The seesaw continued at New England, as New Orleans won comfortably, by a 28-13 margin, and the inconsistent form was on full display again last week.

In their first home game in New Orleans, the Saints blew a 21-10 fourth-quarter lead and lost in overtime to the previously winless New York Giants.

Tennessee sinks without A.J. Brown, Julio Jones

After he missed multiple games in 2020, A.J. Brown had surgery on both knees during the offseason. Julio Jones was also out for seven games last season.

Keeping them healthy is paramount for Tennessee, which lost to the New York Jets in Week 4, with the star receivers sidelined.

The Titans converted just five of their 19 third-down attempts and only two of five attempts in the red zone.

Game of the week

Anticipated matchups this week include Cleveland at the Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco at Arizona, and Green Bay at Cincinnati, but none is bigger than Buffalo at Kansas City.

The AFC heavyweights promise to deliver offensive fireworks.

Josh Allen will seek his first win over Patrick Mahomes, as he lost twice to Kansas City last season, including a 38-24 setback in the AFC Conference Championship Game.
