The Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl odds continue to trend in the right direction, following a big Monday-night win over the Minnesota Vikings. Is it time to jump on the bandwagon, or are the surging Ravens too tough to look past?

Odds to win the Super Bowl

Seattle has won five straight

After an embarrassing 30-16 home loss to Baltimore on October 20, the Seahawks were +3000 to win their second Super Bowl in the Pete Carroll era. Four straight wins followed, which dropped their odds to as low as +1050 early last week. After a slight uptick to +1175 the day after Thanksgiving, the Seahawks' odds dropped again to a season-low +850 in the wake of their 37-30 victory over Minnesota on Monday night.

Russell Wilson completed 21 of his 31 throws for 240 yards and two touchdownswith one odd interceptionagainst the Vikings. He sports a 67.4% completion rate for the season, with 8.3 yards per attempt and a 26-4 touchdown-interception rationumbers that would be good enough to make him the frontrunner for the MVP if not for the exploits of Lamar Jackson.
Jackson sports a 66.5% completion rate this year, has averaged 7.7 yards per attempt and boasts a 25-5 touchdown-interception ratio. Jackson also has 977 rushing yards and his team has won eight straight.

Seahawks and Ravens are neck and neck in the standings

But the comparisons between the Seahawks and Ravens do not end at quarterback. Their offenses are about the same in terms of yards per play. Baltimore ranks third (6.3), and Seattle is sixth (5.9). Both clubs have struggled to stop opposing offenses, as the Ravens’ defense is 19th in yards allowed per play (5.6), while the Seahawks’ stoppers are 24th (5.8). Baltimore and Seattle also struggle to generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks, as the Ravens are 22nd in sacks (27), while the Seahawks are 29th (23).

Seattle is essentially a poor man’s version of Baltimore at nearly four times the price. If there is a wager to be made on either club, it should be on the Seahawks for value. But both teams should be wary of facing a well-rounded club like the Saints or 49ers come playoff time, or even a healthy Patriots team with its historically stingy defense.
