Two perennial NFL powerhouses will meet at Lambeau Field on Sunday afternoon as the Pittsburgh Steelers visit the Green Bay Packers.

These two clubs are trending in opposite directions ahead of this Week 4 clash. The Steelers dropped two straight at home to non-playoff teams from 2020 in the Las Vegas Raiders and Cincinnati Bengals after posting an upset victory in Week 1 over the Buffalo Bills. Meanwhile, the Packers shook off a blowout Week 1 loss to the New Orleans Saints with a resounding victory over the Detroit Lions and a last-second triumph over the San Francisco 49ers.

Let’s dive into the matchup and see which side bettors should be on.

Comparing the quarterbacks

Reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers has looked outstanding over his last two games, completing 45 of 60 passes for 516 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions. He draws a plum matchup with a Pittsburgh pass defense that’s allowed 266 yards per game through the air in 2021, 20th in the league.

Ben Roethlisberger has not been in great form to begin his 39-year-old campaign for the Steelers. Only two quarterbacks have attempted more throws than Big Ben (130) this year (Tampa’s Tom Brady with 141 and Vegas’ Derek Carr with 136), and Roethlisberger has completed only 63.8 percent of his passes. His touchdown-interception ratio is a mediocre 3-3.

He’s also been sacked an alarming eight times through three games, and takes on a Packers pass-stopping unit that’s ninth in the NFL through three games (206 yards allowed per contest).

Don’t expect Jones, Harris to dominate

Two solid rush defenses will go head-to-head in this one, which could help Under bettors, as well as those looking to play against Aaron Jones and Najee Harris in the prop markets.

Jones will take on a Steelers defense that’s allowed just 88.3 rushing yards per game and no touchdowns. Harris – averaging a modest 3.1 yards per carry through three weeks – meets Green Bay’s 16th-ranked run stoppers.

Steelers vs. Packers injury report

Steelers and Packers betting trends

  • The Steelers are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following a double-digit loss at home
  • The Steelers are 24-8-2 ATS in their last 34 games as an underdog
  • The Packers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games as a home favorite
  • The Packers are 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a straight-up win
  • The Under is 40-13-1 in the Steelers’ last 54 road games
  • The Over is 6-1 in the Packers’ last seven games overall

The verdict

Roethlisberger is showing his age in 2021, while Rodgers is defying Father Time. The edge in the quarterback battle plus home field advantage should put the Packers over the top.

Score prediction: Packers 27, Steelers 16

NFL pick: Packers -6.5
