Premier League picks: Back Wolves against Aston Villa

There is only one Premier League fixture set for Saturday, June 27, as Aston Villa looks to get out from beneath the shroud of relegation in a pivotal match against the Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolves have won two straight since the Premier League returned, and, as the sixth-place team in the table, they are eyeing a potential spot in the Champions League. Meanwhile, Aston Villa’s downward trend has persisted following the return of play last week. It’s a classic case of two clubs going in opposite directions, but both with plenty to play for as they meet at Villa Park.

We experienced two bad beats with the Premier League picks last weekend, but we’ll put those behind us as we return undaunted with a pair of picks for Saturday’s match.

Wolves have come roaring out of the gate since the Premier League returned last week. They’re tied with fifth-place Manchester United at 49 points, and only two back of fourth-place Chelsea.

Wolves will need results outside of their own to fall favorably, of course, but this should be no time to take the foot off the gas, especially against an Aston Villa team that has yet to win in three matches since the return, posting a pair of draws and a one-goal loss to Chelsea.

Wolves are favorites to win on the road, but if you’re looking to spice things up and add a little extra value to that pick, there are a couple of different ways to approach it.

Wolves are facing a team that has averaged 3.06 total goals per game. Aston Villa is middle of the pack in total goals-for with 36 in 31 games, but has conceded 59 total goals-against, so there may be a tendency here for bettors to get excited about a potential win for the Over.

But averaging just over one goal conceded per game for the entire season, Wolves have faced a pair of relegation contenders already since the return to play – West Ham United and Bournemouth – and have only allowed 11 total shots. They didn’t give up a single shot on target against Bournemouth. Two games in, and the same result as Wolves have recorded clean sheets in each contest.

Dating back to the start of February, Wolves have recorded a clean sheet in six of seven league games. In five of those games, the Under 2.5 hit.

Another reason to suspect a low-scoring game is Wolves played on Wednesday, and it’s been fairly warm and sunny in England. The quick turnaround time and hot temperatures could result in a sluggish start to Saturday’s match.

Goals might be hard to come by, especially in the early going, but expect Wolves to break through and take the win.

Pick One: Wolves to win and Under 2.5 goals (+285)

Pick Two: Wolves to win to nil (+180)
