Premier League picks: Expect plenty of goals for Manchester United

Premier League action continues with five fixtures on Saturday, July 4 beginning at 7:30 a.m. ET with Norwich facing Brighton. Champions League contenders Manchester United, Arsenal, Wolverhampton and Chelsea will also be back on the pitch for what promises to be a very busy day. 

After going two-for-two with our picks last weekend, we’re back with three bets at BetAmerica for Saturday’s Premier League action. 

Manchester United vs Bournemouth

It’s been an ugly re-start for Bournemouth, already facing the prospect of relegation, and there is little hope on the horizon this weekend. 

Bournemouth is a massive underdog against Manchester United, which will need to put together another positive result to get even closer to locking up a spot in Champions League. 

Manchester United has looked very strong since the Premier League returned last month, winning two of three matches in league play, and one in FA Cup action as well, outscoring their opponents 8-1 in those three victories. 

Bournemouth’s only hope of getting a good result will be to try to lock it down defensively and frustrate Manchester United, while perhaps getting an opportunity or two off the counter attack. The way Manchester United has been playing these past two weeks, that will be a difficult task. 

Bruno Fernandes, the Portuguese midfielder signed to Manchester United in January, has continued to look dangerous since the return, with 11 total shots in three matches and a pair of goals against Brighton earlier this week. 

Bournemouth may attempt to stifle Manchester United’s attack, but conceding goals has been a problem for them all season long and that will likely continue Saturday. Betting Over 3.5 goals is often a bit of a stretch, but there should be some goals available in this match, particularly from Man Utd.

Wolves vs. Arsenal

The fight for a potential spot in the Champions League continues with Wolverhampton taking on Arsenal. It’s a critical match for both clubs. 

Wolverhampton would need a win to keep pace with, or perhaps even leapfrog Manchester United and Chelsea to get into the top four, depending on the outcomes of their respective matches on Saturday.  

Meanwhile, a loss would be a dagger to Arsenal’s chances of qualifying. 

As good as Arsenal has looked in its last three matches across all competitions – three straight wins, including two clean sheets – Wolves have simply taken care of business with three straight wins in league play. They also haven’t conceded a goal since the EPL's return. A run of clean sheets has actually become standard for this club dating back to before the pandemic hit. 

There is the potential to look at Arsenal’s recent run of form and consider an upset here. But Wolves have been consistent in keeping the opposition in check, and that includes some of the better clubs in the Premier League like Manchester United and Leicester City. 

Expect that to continue this week against Arsenal. 

Pick: Wolves to win (+125)

Chelsea vs. Watford

Chelsea couldn’t have asked for a better re-start to the season, with wins over Aston Villa and Manchester City to keep a hold on the fourth spot in the Premier League table. 

But they veered off course on Wednesday in a stunning 3-2 loss to West Ham United, after conceding what would be the winning goal in the 89th minute. 

That’s an ugly loss, and it could in time be costly. But it’s possible this was just entirely a blip on the radar. From time to time, these games and these outcomes are going to happen for the majority of clubs. 

The response becomes even more important.

Expect a sharper effort from Chelsea on Saturday, but there should be an opportunity here for the Over 2.5 goals to hit, as well. Since the Premier League returned last month, the Over 2.5 has hit in three of Chelsea’s four games across all competitions.
